Tour 2010 River Sarthe
1 - Chateauneuf-Sur-Sarthe to Igneres
In September 2010, Martin Clark and myself were kindly invited to help David Long bring his narrowboat Falcon, up most of the Sarthe Navigation, in France, to Falcon's Winter mooring at the head of navigation, in the medieval town of Le Mans. The River Sarthe meets up with the navigable River Moyenne, just upstream from Angers. Through Angers the combined rivers are known as the Maine, this meets the River Loire, just below Bouchemaine. From this point the Loire is a free flowing and tidal river, some 60km to Nantes and the connection, via the River Erdre to the Brittany navigations. This section of the Lore is navigable, but with flow, level and tidal considerations.
