The Tuesday Night Club on Tour
Tour (Mini Me) 2007
1 - Saltford to Bristol Floating Harbour and Recovery back home.
We finally recovered Linda's
Beaver (Wilderness trail boat) on Saturday 10th February 2007.
We started off at 07:00am after a fraught time dragging the trailer round the
block and bouncing it up the kerb backwards, to free up the auto-off in reverse
braking system. No problems on journey, dropped the trailer off at Bristol
Marina, after paying the dues for the large slipway (one days Bristol City Docks
Licence - £10.70), Linda then dropped Neil and Peter of at Saltford - she
denied herself the first go in her own boat!
Quick fill up with petrol (left over from siphoning out of our last two petrol
cars - we are now all diesel!) Yamaha started first pull on the starter
(electric) and we were off at 11.00. Fairly spirited passage down the Bristol
Avon and through the Floating Harbour, arrival at Bristol Marina at 14:15. The
recovery was a breeze...made easier by Neil sticking rather TOO much of the
trailer in the water. We were under way at 15:00. Rather fraught passage through
Bristol (missing the width restrictions) By the time we hit the M32 the
torrential rail started, that was with us most of the way home. Once rolling
Neil found that the KIA Sorento was more pleasant to drive in 2 wheel drive,
averaged 55, with only a few hills that we had to change down to 4th. Arrived
home at 18.00. Rather a bugger to get the trailer up our shared drive...bloody
brakes were sticking in reverse...KIA clutch now seems non the worse for
wear.
One cock up we found...the rear deck drain hole is the strengthened tow out
point...best NOT to leave it blocked with the tow rope....as it fills up quickly
in the rain. Linda has managed to find the three "keel" bilges and dry
them out. Re-naming ceremony not yet carried out, or the new IKEA furniture
installed...Neil is too busy readying Earnest for Ireland!
